Adaptive Ground

Adaptive Ground – an installation at Marsell Flagship Store on Via della Spiga, explores the relationship between structure and softness, transformation and material memory. Across two levels, marble, leather, and inflatable forms shift between furniture and sculpture, inviting a quiet moment of movement and reflection.

Adaptive Ground

On the ground floor, some of the most emblematic pieces – such as Tube Lights and Formations seating elements – compose a setting that is both sculptural and permeable, visible from the outside through the large windows. The atmosphere is defined by light filtering through objects.

The first threshold is an invitation: to observe, to transition. Descending into the lower level, the atmosphere shifts. An inflatable structure, bound by a Marsèll long leather strap, takes center stage, forming an ephemeral, nearly immaterial podium. Around it, a stepped seating arena invites visitors to pause, to contemplate. The relationship between object and body, structure and perception is reversed: what should be solid becomes fragile, while what is usually transient gains weight and permanence.

A paradox unfolds. The arena becomes a site of stillness, its circular white leather cushions offering a moment of retreat evoked by their perfect shape, philosophical and essential.
